Shirtliff to Roper Bill of sale

July 1, 1799

Know all men by these presents that I Richard Shirtliff of the county of Frederick and Commonwealth of Virginia for the consideration of one hundred and thirty pounds the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have Bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto Nicholas Roper a Negro boy slave commonly called and known by the name of Ceasar, a bay mare with a blaze face three walnut tables two feather beds and furniture six chairs one black cow and a sett of black smiths tools; to have and to hold the said slave, mare, three walnut tables, two feather beds & furniture six chairs one cow and sett of black smiths tools to the said Nicholas Roper his heirs and assigns forever, and I do by these presents for myself my said executors and administrators covenant and agree to warrant the said slave, Mare, three walnut tables, two feather beds and furniture, six chairs one cow and a sett of Black Smith Tools to the said Nicholas Roper his heirs and assigns against the claim of every person What ever, In Witness whereof I have presents set my hand and affixed my seal this first day of April in the year 1799.
