Note: OBITUARY
Mr. William L. Hedges died yesterday morning, aged 85 years and 18 days.
Until within a few days he had been moving about and upon the street.
Perhaps he is the oldest, but one of the men of the town, and has been a resident here for very many years. Until advanced age and reverses came upon him he was engaged in the mercantile business. He was a very Zelotus member of A.F. & A. Masons,-joined Mt. Nebo Lodge of Masons at Shepherdstown November 13, 1841; was admitted a member of Maka Lodge, Charles Town, January 31, 1855. At one time he was Master of Maka Lodge, and was appointed Tiler June 20, 1883, and continued such until his death. The town honored him by election several times as Recorder, and sometimes he performed the duties as Mayor pro tem. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and regular in his attendance upon public worship. He was twice married -- several sons and daughters and wife survive him. He was a very kind man, devoted to his family, friendly in disposition, and lived peaceably with all men. We have known him a half century, and do not think we ever heard an unkind expression fall from his lips. His funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at the Presbyterian Church at 3 o'clock P.M. He will be buried with Masonic honors in Edge Hill Cemetery.
