Lynn, William {I0756} (b. UNKNOWN, d. ABT 1837)
Note: Owned what is called "The Lynn - Lodge House" located on the west side of the apple pie ridge about a mile north of White hall. The land on which this old home stands consists of two tracts: one of 250 acres granted by patent of Governor Gooch of Virgina on November 12, 1735 to Giles Chapman (F.D.B. 1 page 220) and one of 1250 acres granted by Lord Fairfax to James Crumley. (F.D.B. 24B - page 461). The first of these was sold by Giles Chapman to James Crumley, by James Crumley, and passed " by heirship to John Crumley, he being heir at law of Samuel Crumley". (F.W.B. 3 page 215). The second also came to John Crumley as an heir of James Crumley.

On October 4, 1793, John Crumley, "of Newbury County, South Carolina", conveyed a part of the first tract to Robert Bull (F.D.B. 24B - page 461) and on the same date he conveyed the second to David Lupton. (F.D.B. S.C. 2 - page 476). The will of James Crumley, grandfather of John Crumley, proved August 9, 1764, clearly indicates that there was a house on this tract as early as the date (F.D.B. 3 - page 215).

On March 27, 1804, William Lynn bought the first of these tracts from Robert Bull of Berkeley County (F.D.B. 28 - page 341). and on December 10, 1807, he acquired the second tract from David Lupton. (F.D.B. 31 - page 331). The Lynn family (sometimes spelled Linn) came to Frederick county from Northern Ireland about the same time as the Glasses, McDowells, Magills and others. (Cartmell - page 414). There are numerous records of ownership of property by members of this family in the town of Winchester. William Lynn was one of the Justices of Frederick County in the period from 1795 to 1813 (cartmell - page 105).

William Lynn died intestate prior to 1839, and it appears that his son, William Lynn Jr., acquired the interest of the other heirs in his estate. (F.D.B. 67 - page 494; F.D.B. 61 page 496)

On October 9, 1847, William Lynn Jr., and Mary, his wife, conveyed to Samuel Lodge 200 acres of the Estate which William Lynn (Sr.) died seized of. (F.D.B. 75 page 537). On February 18, 1854, Samuel Lodge and Rebecca, his wife, of Loudoun County conveyed to William Lodge, his son, this same tract of land and the old house upon it. (F.D.B. 81 page 171). The following complete account of William Lodge and the Lodge family to be found in Morris page 778.

The Farm of William Lodge passed to his son, John W. Lodge. (F.D.B. 117 page 468). John W. Lodge left four children: W. Raymond, Laura Virginia Eschell, John Bruce, and Hazel B. Snider. On July 10, 1968, W. Raymond Lodge conveyed his interest in his fathers estate to the other heirs (F.D.B. 344 page 133) and on January 27, 1967, these heirs conveyed the 200 acre farm and old home to J. P. Darlington. (F.D.B. 350 page 283)
