In Martinsburg on the 12th of July, 1874, Mrs. Mary J. Milburn
in the 57th year of her age.
Sufferings borne with exemplary patience and unmurmuring submission in her case for several years have come to an end. She looked forward to death not simply without dread, but with desire and hope, knowing Christ to be an all-sufficient Savior. It is, therefore, the privilege of those who survive to think of her as dying in the comfort of a reasonable, religious and holy hope, in favor with God and in charity with the world.

Killed By Train at Ferry.
In the presence of a number of horified bystanders
on the station plateform in Harpers Ferry last Wednesday
morning James Henretta was struck and killed by a south-
bound Baltimore and Ohio valley branch train, while a com-
panion, "Shorty" Newton, escaped with a few bruises and
lacerations.
The two men were employed on the track and both were
intently engaged in the operation of thawing out a frozen cross
over switch, using a blow torch for this purpose. It is believed
the noise made by the torch drowned that due to the apporching
train coming off the main line to the branch and both men were
utterly unaware of their extremity. The tragedy took place at the
northern end of the bridge in view of waiting passengers and
spectators. The latter first saw the approach of the passenger train
which was one from Baltimore to Winchester, and endeavored to
wave down the engineer to no avail. Henretta was hurled beneath
the train and dragged a distance of 100 fet(sic) or more. His back
was broken and one leg fractured. Newton was hurled clear of the
train into the snow.
The body of the dead man was taken in charge by Funeral
Director Echols, of Bolivar.
The deceased had been in the company's employ about 35 years.
He was 55 years of age and a resident of Sandy Hook, Md. Surviving
are his widow, two daugters and one son, all of Sandy Hook.
Mr. Henretta was one of the company's most highly esteemed
section foreman and his ability was such that on different occasions
he had officiated in the absence of the road supervisor.
He was a native of Zoar.
